Think You've Done Everything to Cut College Costs?

Here’s How Families Like Ours Are Still Finding $10,000–$25,000 (or More) in Hidden Savings—Even When Aid Falls Short.

When my oldest daughter started college, we’d followed all the “right” steps—applied for scholarships, filled out the FAFSA, and hoped for merit aid. But as a CFP and tax attorney (and a parent of five, now including two daughters headed back to college and triplets coming up fast), I was stunned at how much we were still expected to pay out of pocket. Like many moderate and high-income families, we didn’t qualify for much need-based aid, and the so-called “family contribution” was sky-high despite earning some merit scholarships.

If you’re in the same boat—facing big college bills despite your best efforts—you’re not alone. Most financial advice stops at scholarships and 529 plans, leaving families like ours with a huge funding gap.

That’s why I created the Freshman Course: a comprehensive introduction to the real tax-saving and college funding strategies that most families (and even many advisors) never hear about.

You’ll walk away eager, anxious to get started (time is money) and with a clear understanding of where the biggest hidden savings are for your family. Further you will have the confidence and ready resources available to start capturing them—no matter how much you earn or how many kids you have on the path to college.

What You'll Discover Inside:

  • How moderate and high-income families who are often left out of traditional aid—can now employ effective strategies do to fight back and find monies for college.

  • How to unlock education tax credits and deductions (like the American Opportunity and Lifetime Learning Credits) even if you’ve been told you make too much—or have multiple kids in college at once.

  • Income-shifting and business deduction basics—see how families like ours are using smart, IRS-approved strategies to save thousands if not tens of thousands per year, per child.

  • How to employ or create employee benefit tuition programs to create tax free monies that go well beyond 529 plans, Coverdells, and other tax-favored accounts.

  • Learn how to coordinate and stack benefits for maximum results and impact.

  • Special tactics for business owners that really pay off with both small families and with larger families with more than one child headed toward college (or triplets like me!)—because every dollar counts when you’re paying for more than one tuition bill.

  • Don’t have a business? If the benefits are big enough, we might just be able to help you to get started in a turn key business tailored to capture these benefits.

It's so easy! We knew the tax planning would help but the guidance on increasing scholarship money and financial aid was amazing too! Saved us $22,500 for our son.

Uncovered benefits totaling $18,000 a year for each of my three children. That is $54,000 in benefits and our kids are learning some valuable lessons on planning.

We were able to re-arrange our finances to qualify for $10,000 in free tax credit money for each of our children that we thought we didn't qualify for due to our income.

Meet the Founder & Instructor

Terry Wheeler J.D. , CFP®

Tuition Tax Secrets is a passion project for its founder Terry Wheeler J.D., CFP®. He is a tax and wealth planning attorney, a former adjunct professor at U.C. Davis for CFP candidates, and a father of 5 children, including triplets.  As a high income earner he faced the challenge of sending his 5 children to college while receiving zero needs based aid.  He has always been passionate about education and is both a consummate student and teacher.  As a proud father he of course had to find a way to send his 5 children to college (not to mention advanced degrees) but as a tax attorney and wealth planning specialist he knew there had to be a better way.

After countless hours of research, consulting other experts in the tax and education arenas, he put together a strategy for his family that he estimates may save him in excess of $300,000 off the cost of educating his family.  With two college age children and triplets rapidly headed in that direction, these strategies have become a life saver for he and his family.  Now he shares his strategies with other families facing their own version of college funding challenges.  Consultants recommended base pricing significantly higher than being offered but Terry wanted the system to be available to help as many families as possible.  Why work with him?  Well, Terry is nationally recognized for his expertise in taxes, wealth accumulation, preservation, estate planning, charitable planning, and asset protection. He frequently educates attorneys, accountants, and financial professionals through lectures and writings on these subjects. He also teaches through articles, presentations, and his podcast titled: WE Money Talk.
